"...when she knows something you don't."
Rough sketch from today. Still playing with structure and stylization. This one's definitely closer to the vibe I want for character designs.

The Martyr Mode Update is here!
The Martyr Update for Death of a Wish is here! This colossal new update adds a massive new challenge mode that adds even greater replayability and challenge to this subversive action-RPG!
To celebrate, we are discounting the game to its lowest-ever price as the Steam Daily Deal for September 19th! Save 25% on all editions of Death of a Wish!
There's a lot to cover in this update, so let's dive right in.
ABOUT MARTYR MODE
Martyr Mode is our version of an ultra-challenging, endgame mode with randomization, customization, and scoreboards. In it, players build a deck of Challenge Cards in order to apply challenging new rules to their Death of a Wish run in exchange for score multipliers.

In Martyr Mode, the cumulative score of each mandatory encounter is recorded and factored into your final score at the end of each run. Bonus points are rewarded for completing optional objectives and taking on Challenge Cards.
The start of each track will present players with three Challenge Cards to pick from. Challenge Cards introduce new rule modifiers that mix up combat and increase difficulty. These include rules such as:
Comeback - Upon recovering from a status effect, enemy attacks are 100% more powerful for 10 seconds.
Break Invuln (ii) - Enemy invulnerable after recovering from Break for 4 seconds
Lost Grace (ii) - Reduces non-S Rank Corruption reduction by 75%.
Each Challenge Card will introduce more challenging rules, but grant greater score bonuses during a run. Challenge Cards will stack cumulatively over the course of a player’s entire run, so it is critical to make deliberate decisions about which cards to add to your deck and when. Escalating the risk can provide great rewards, but only if you can survive to complete them.

There are 40 challenge cards in all, and an infinite range of ways to mix and match them creatively to tune a run for a high score. How will you rise to the challenge?
BALANCES & FIXES
This update brings with it some balances and changes to further aid the Death of a Wish combat experience, including:
Reduced health of late-game bosses.
Slightly easier BREAKs on tankier bosses.
Reduced the penalty to health essence recovery on higher Punishment difficulties.
Increased the wind-up time on most enemy gunfire attacks.
Decreased the hitbox size of all enemy gunfire projectiles.
[Randomizer] Decreased the prevalence of miniboss and story boss summons in True Randomizer mode.
NEW LANGUAGES ARE COMING

I haven't touched the maps this week!
The bad news is I got distracted by the character generator so I still got nothing done on plot or systems.
How did I spend 5 days fucking around with the character generator? Magic!
Just kidding. I'm using the MV generator, and I have an extensive collection of parts for it. But some people don't name the files correctly, or use the same file numbers as someone else or the original generator, so you have overwriting problems. Some creators only like doing one or two things so the part sets are incomplete. And some people do all of that on an incredible number of parts sets, but their work is really nice so you want to use it. But it takes literally days of sorting and collecting parts other people made to fill in gaps and then renaming all the parts and no I did not finish, I am calling it. I've spent too much time on character image creation and it's time to cut myself off, even though my character generator parts database is so messy it gives me hives.
Today's goals is to finalize designs for the PC and main enemy parties, and start database work.
#elise's daily life arc#gamedev#i kind of like the MV generator parts#they're especially hideous in the wrong combinations#but when you get a cute look it's really cute#that's what happened with talia

Obligatory Introductory Post
Twitter has been my social media platform of choice for the past 6 years but as that trainwreck continues unfolding in slow motion I finally decided to claim a spot here as well.
So hey! If you know me from anywhere else online, it'd probably be from one of these places:
itch.io / Lexaloffle Forums, where I make games and PICO-8 things (like FUZ!)
Twitter, where besides my gamedev stuff I've been posting daily pixel art for 5+ years (and counting) following the prompts from Pixel Dailies*
Cohost, where I mostly cross-post my pixel art
Instagram, which I've basically abandoned but just has some of my pixel art
Trove, a voxel-based MMO I was an active creator and modder for from 2015-2019
Various Discord servers
I go by Jusiv or Jusiv_ just about everywhere so I'm usually pretty easy to spot. I had to make an exception here for some reason, I guess Jusiv was too short.
I also have a personal site: jusiv.me! Check there for info on my projects and even an extensive gallery of my Pixel Dailies submissions!
*You can also find Pixel Dailies themes on Reddit but I don't usually post there as of yet.

Lua.

devlog 01.
I started reading books about game narrative design. The other day I made a pixel artwork, which in turn made me want to make low poly 3d artwork, which in turn made me want to make a simple itch.io game. Haven't been able to get the idea out of my head ever since and I do wonder if it'll bring me joy.
Well, the word "dev log" itself makes it seem like you're working on something important, you know? Here, have a cute update on this creation in which I have poured my whole blood, sweat, and tears into! sort of stuff.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm making coherent sentences. Do they pair up nicely with my incoherent thoughts?

Hey gamers/modders, I been thinking about something and wondered what people's opinions are.
As someone who qualifies as 'old' by internet standards (over 30) and recently just read this article about Square Enix having to implement a 'customer harassment policy' - and I mean harassment from players/customers towards Squex staff, it got me thinking.
I have been gaming a while. A long while. And I really feel like about a decade ago, this shit would be considered 'rare' enough that it was uncommon. Now gamedev and even modders are facing harassment from players on a daily basis to the point policies like THIS are having to become a thing, like ....? Like I can point to SEVERAL cases of this in recent years, like how a lot of the BG3 devs and even VA's have been treated and harassed by fans with the expectation of somehow 'continuing' a closed-story-rpg-game indefinitely. The Sims 4 modding community is riddled with drama that I have not seen in any other modding space - at least to that level. Like I know incidents of prominent modders being fucking doxxed because they weren't IMMEDIATELY available to patch for a Sims 4 update (and the Sims 4 is honestly kind of notorious for frequent updating).
Like not to be a 'kids these days' person, but idk, there's only one group entering the wider gaming scene over those 10 years and that's Gen Z. I mean yeah, there's a decent argument towards the growing dominance of web 2.0 (basically your social media sites) that could have fostered an environment for 'anonymous harassment' but I find that hard to believe.
Growing up with games and discovering mods for the first time, I definitely learned to appreciate the hard work modders put in, out of their own time, to make a mod and share it with people for free! We also had to live through a lot of game releases where 'day one patch' was NEVER a thing, and gamedev delays were acceptable because of this - you wanted that game to work on release because you weren't going to GET a patch in most cases. Internet couldn't handle it. Now instead, we have games releasing in early, busted states with a day one patch because you've got some people sending death threats to developers if they mention another delay (Cyberpunk 2077 is a good case for this one).
I dunno. Is it just because I'm old and my priorities are different? I don't have the energy to burn on harassing devs? Because I grew up with games in a different manner than the current gen in gaming?
Thoughts?
#kerytalk#this is not a gen Z callout post either#I know some lovely gen Z peeps#I am just really kind of stunned#like ... what is going on

i updated a couple things on the site:
added 'Archive' page under 'bfs<3' to keep track of boyfriends and their alts
added 'Info' page under 'bfs<3' to keep track of how far new dialogue unlocks for each boyfriend
now you can edit your boyfriends 'Nickname'. Just click the pen icon next to their name :] (remember these nicknames are public!)
you can also see other peoples bfs now! Go to Forums, select, the user and click 'bfs' on their profile (this isn't super interesting yet since everyone has the same bfs atm but the option is there :p)
also interactions per day have been increased to 5
#ill get better icons at some point!#using emojis is much faster and convenient ahah#if anything breaks let me know#i also added more dialogue for like A and Kai though A has a giant gap compared to everyone now 🐸#but yea the more dialogue i can think of the more daily interactions ill add! ill try to revisit other guys#after i release the next guys (march) ill add the 18 plus button so that will help some#oc#ocs#art#artists on tumblr#gamedev#web game

I should have a pinned post, probably
Hi! I'm Benedict Ide, sometimes called SC- a programmer, writer, and sometimes gamedev who makes Various Things. You might know me for:
Star Seeker in: the Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff, a short comedy murder mystery game about solving wizard crimes
CORDYCEPS: Too clever for their own good, a sort of psychological horror novel about people with amnesia in a mysterious facility
One of various Tumblr posts that got a gajillion notes for one reason or another
TWAITB or STFSTF, an Overwatch fic and a Steven Universe fic respectively that aren't really ratfic but got popular in those circles
Teen Jail Squad, an Epithet Erased/Teen Girl Squad parody video, or other voice posts frequently featuring my Strong Bad impression.
I have a lot of irons currently in the fire! Ongoing projects include:
Datasouls InFinite Secret Ending Walkthrough, a fake walkthrough for a game that doesn't exist, and its supplementary anagram quest Lost In Hearts
A visual novel adaptation of Lurina's The Flower That Bloomed Nowhere
Justice/Arcana, an expanded sequel to Star Seeker
Medallion Works, a content management engine and game implementation for Fire Emblem-style SRPGs, and a currently unnamed game codenamed Thrall (or sometimes "Izuka Simulator") being built with it
all of which I'm juggling with various life maintenance and self-improvement tasks like learning Japanese, practicing guitar, drawing stuff, exercising, modding for various discords, and staying afloat with a kind of volatile day job as a contractor in web development. I try to post daily to-do lists to keep myself on track- if you don't want to see those, you can block the tag "#sc accountability".

posting this here after much self-debate bc i dont want to actually Start A Discussion about it but i need to get my thoughts out Somewhere
I watched Jacob Geller's new video about Fear of Dark with some mild interest; personally the subject is entirely unrelatable to me, I've never been afraid of the dark, I actually find it comforting mostly, but I watch videos about things I don't relate to all the time, that's fine. And Jacob, of course, is a fantastic writer, and his videos always have excellent thoughtful presentation, so they're just a good thing to watch anyway.
Which is why I am deeply bothered that never at any point he mentioned anything about blind people or how an absolute lack of perception might actually be someone's normal. He talks about people going into caves and blindfolding themselves and hallucinating visual input but not what might be happening in the brains of people for whom light has never existed. For a lesser essayist I might give it a pass, but this is the kind of careful extrapolation of a subject I might expect him to at least give a nod to.
And I find this especially salient, for an essayist who talks about games, because I watched another video a while ago from someone talking about games that were accessible to blind people (that is, you can get through them solely using hearing and/or tactile input) and how the vast, VAST majority are horror games. Because sighted gamedevs can't seem to conceive of "find your way around the dark" as anything but terrifying. And how this sucks for blind players both bc the lack of options if you happen to not be a horror fan and for the intrinsic assumption that your daily normal is horrifying.
I don't know, I don't have a neat conclusion to wrap this up with, but I can't help but notice that so many of the things he cited as "fear of the dark" are actually fears of other things (fear of being in the wild, fear of being underground, fear of being trapped/tied up, fear of being vulnerable while unconscious).
The actual dark? As in, lack of visual perception? While certainly there are things that are made dangerous by it, there are plenty of people in this world without one or more senses who are just having normal-ass lives (as normal as can be given general lack of disability accessibility/acceptance)
#idk im tired of writing now post over.#im going back to my hole i dont want to have opinions on the internet#if you wanna bring up these points in ur own discussions feel free#also replying to this post is ok
